See what Liv has to say about bowls

Thinking about playing bowls, would you like to have a go?
And why not? Ask anyone at our club why they play. You will get lots of answers but in general it will be it’s fun, I enjoy it, it’s a great mixture of competitive and sociable. Games are decided by a mixture of skill, tactics and luck (and not necessarily in that order). It is a sport for all. It is not a game for the elderly, but it is a sport you can continue to play into your old age, whilst making many new friends. One of the most frequently heard comments from new bowlers is ” I wish I had taken bowls up years ago”.
It doesn’t take long to pick up the basics of the game but you can spend years seeking to master it.
We would be delighted if you would like to try your hand at bowls at our club. We can provide all the equipment you require and one of our experienced members will take you on the green and get you bowling. If you decide to take up the game you will find it is not an expensive sport to play.
In 2024 we are offering membership at £35.00 for the first year for all new to bowling.
If you are interested then get in touch with us in one of the following ways:-
- Watch out for our Family Fun Weekend during 2024 (to be advised)
- Send us a note from the Contacts page and we will get back to you.
During the bowling season call in at the club and have a chat. See the fixtures page for when we will definitely be there.
Out of the bowling season come to one of our Monthly Coffee Mornings (see the Events Diary for dates), and introduce yourself. You will be made most welcome.
If you decide to join us then we will be happy to provide advice as to which bowls to choose and what other equipment is essential. Once a member it is up to you how little or how much you play. Coaches are available to get you going and then if you wish to help you improve your game.
As a member you will be entitled to go on the green to practice or have a roll-up whenever it is available, and to put your name down to play in friendly matches. We have approximately 40 Tourist and Friendly matches each year so there are plenty of opportunities. You can enter club competitions and we have 4 mens, 2 ladies and 1 mixed league teams.
Then during the winter we play a number of indoor matches, both long mat and short. In the clubhouse we have 2 carpets to play short mat bowls. There are a number of short mat leagues and a Friday afternoon roll-up session to take part in.
