Torquay Bowling Club is delighted to announce the success of Dave Mitchell and Malcolm Kellow in successfully completing their official Bowls England coaching qualification, joining our existing coach Christine Marshall to form a stronger, more resilient coaching team. This is a significant milestone for our developing club and a moment of real pride for everyone involved.

Both newly qualified coaches bring with them many years of bowling experience, a deep understanding of the sport, and a genuine passion for helping others grow. Their achievement not only reflects their personal dedication but also signals the club’s commitment to supporting members at every stage of their bowling journey.

As our membership continues to grow, the addition of two more qualified coaches will make a meaningful difference. Coaching plays a vital role in helping bowlers, whether brand new or long‑established, build confidence, improve technique, and enjoy the game even more.

Why Coaching Matters

Coaching is far more than correcting a stance or adjusting a delivery. It provides a structured, supportive environment where bowlers can learn, experiment, and develop at their own pace. For new members, coaching offers a welcoming introduction to the sport, covering everything from grip and delivery to etiquette and understanding the flow of a game. This early support helps newcomers settle in quickly and feel part of the club community.

For more experienced bowlers, coaching can unlock new levels of performance. Small refinements in technique, improved tactical awareness, or a fresh perspective on shot selection can make a significant difference on the green. Many long‑standing members find that a single coaching session can reignite their enthusiasm or help them overcome a plateau.

What Members Can Expect

With three qualified coaches now available, Torquay Bowling Club can offer a wider range of support, including:

  • Introductory sessions for new bowlers

  • Skill‑specific coaching such as weight control, line consistency, or delivery mechanics

  • Tactical coaching for match play and team development

  • Confidence‑building sessions for those who want gentle guidance

  • Ongoing development plans for members who want to track progress over time

This expanded coaching team ensures that every member regardless of experience, has access to personalised support should they wish to engage with it.

As we look ahead to the coming season, the club is excited about the opportunities this enhanced coaching provision will bring. It strengthens our foundation, supports our growth, and reinforces our commitment to being a welcoming, inclusive, and ambitious bowling community.
