Annual Triples Tournament Welcomes 24 Teams to Torquay Bowling Club

On 28 June, Torquay Bowling Club once again played host to its much‑loved annual Triples Tournament, welcoming 24 teams from across Devon and the wider South West. Building on the success of last year’s event, clubs travelled from far and wide to take part in what has become one of the region’s standout competitions.

The 24 teams were split into two draws, with the first group starting at 9am and the second beginning an hour later. Across the day, each team played five matches, earning three points for a win and one for a draw. With 72 players taking part, the tournament offered a fantastic mix of experience, enthusiasm, and opportunity giving seasoned bowlers and newer players alike the chance to enjoy competitive play in a friendly, welcoming environment.

By lunchtime, the Brixham Ladies were leading Group A, closely followed by the Bouncing Bunnies, who later overtook them to secure a place in the playoffs. The knockout stage brought together the winners and runners‑up from each draw, with semi‑finals determining who would progress to the final showdown.

The day concluded with a superb final between local side Torbay Terrors and Spencer Moulton, with the Torbay Terrors claiming the overall title. Third place went to Westlands, who secured their spot by defeating local Paignton Ladies, Bowling Bunnies in a strong playoff performance.

It was a brilliant day of bowling, camaraderie, and competition. A huge amount of work went into making the tournament run smoothly, with many club members arriving as early as 7:30am to prepare breakfast rolls and set up for the day.

Special thanks go to Zoe and Ian Bristow for their superb planning and organisation, both beforehand and throughout the event. Jane Perrett and her kitchen team kept everyone well‑fed and watered from morning to late afternoon, while Gerry Coffield and the bar team were kept busy serving players and spectators alike. Appreciation also goes to Club President, Mike Reynolds, Club Chair Paul Levick who were both involved in the presentation of the day, and Christine Marshall for managing a successful raffle.

All the hard work, alongside the support of many others helped create a welcoming, well‑run, and thoroughly enjoyable tournament for all 72 competitors.
